3. Export Price Index in Iran Azar 1396 (1390 = 100) The Export Price Index (XPI) increased 3.4 percent in Azar 1396 following a 5.7 percent rise in Aban 1396. The index level of 285.4 was 21.0 percent higher than in Azar 1395. During the first nine months of the current Iranian year, the XPI rose 17.3 percent compared to the similar period in 1395. The XPI has advanced 16.0 percent over the past twelve months. In Azar, the animal products group index rose 7.6 percent, which was mainly due to the rises in the prices for frozen fish, yogurt, and sheep assorted casing. The vegetable products group index advanced 2.6 percent. The mentioned rise was attributed to the increases in the prices for pistachio and raisin, while the declines for saffron, shelled almond, and date where also considerable. The animal or vegetable fats and oils group index went up 6.6 percent. Increase in the price for hydrogenated oil was the major reason for this advance. The prepared foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco group index moved up 2.4 percent, which was attributed to the increases in the prices for biscuit and wafer, tomato paste, cake, ice cream, and non-cacao chocolate. The mineral products group index fell 0.3 percent, over this month. Mostly as a result of increasing in the prices for methanol, urea fertilizer, ammonia, styrene, and "detergent powders and liquids" the products of the chemical or allied industries group index moved up 10.6 percent.  The index is computed on the Iranian Rial basis. In this month, the exchange rates of Dollar and Euro increased 2.5 percent and 4.0 percent, respectively. 1

The 2 .6 percent increase in the plastics and articles thereof, rubber and articles thereof group index was led by rises in the prices for low density polyethylene, high density polyethylene, and plastic hoses. During this month, the skins and leather and articles thereof group index and the wood and articles of wood group index went up 2.4 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively. The textiles and textile articles group index turned up 3.5 percent. Higher prices for machine-made carpet and hand-woven carpet were the major factors for this increase. The footwear group index moved up 2.8 percent, largely due to the increase in the price for "sandal with uppers of rubber or plastics". The articles of stone group index increased 3.1 percent which was principally due to the advances in the prices for "tile and ceramic" and sheet glass. The base metals and articles of base metal group index advanced 1.0 percent in Azar. The rise was driven by increasing prices for hot coil iron, cathode copper, ferromolybdenum, galvanized pipes, zinc ingot, and lead ingot. The machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment group index increased 3.0 percent, over this month, mostly as a result of the increases in the prices for air cooler and cable. The vehicles and associated transport equipment group index went down 0.9 percent, mainly due to the decline in the price for tractor, while the advance in price for car radiator was also considerable. 2
