United Nation Environment launched the Green Economy Initiative (GEI) in 2008 comprising global research and national level assistance to encourage policymakers to support environmental investments in the context of sustainable development. The Green Economy can be seen as a way to achieve a resilient economy that provides a better quality of life for all. It can also be seen as a way of linking economic, environmental and social considerations to sustainable development in such a way that long-term economic development is achieved by investing in a fair and friendly social-friendly solution.
To implement this Green Economy requires the cooperation of all parties especially finance. Now, the role of Islamic finance in achieving this goal is still in its infancy and requires a deeper discussion. Thus, GCIEF 2019 becomes a platform for scholars to discuss and exchange ideas in contributing towards this goal.
